Research into Hughes Syndrome is vitally important and takes place both in the laboratory and clinic. Research focuses on the mechanics of the antiphospholipid antibodies and aims to discover more about what causes the blood to clot, why some patients develop thrombosis and others do not, how different parts of the body are affected and which treatment is the most effective. The Hughes Syndrome Foundation helps to fund the research carried out at St Thomas' Hospital.
